In summer 2022 the Iranian state unveiled a new, Orwellian set of policy proposals called the "Hijab and Chastity Project", aimed at further curtailing women's activities and freedom of dress in public. A number of women who had taken a public stand against mandatory veiling in Iran were arrested. One of them, Sepideh Rashnu, was forced to appear on state TV giving a scripted "confession" while swathed in a hijab. This cartoon by Mana Neyestani is devoted to ordinary female citizens of Iran who continue to fight for the freedom that is their right, in the shadow of an ageing, misogynist regime.
