
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a man sanctioned by the United States for his involvement in the Islamic Republic’s massive human rights violations over more than three decades, received a VIP treatment when he visited New York this week to address the UN General Assembly. His trip came in the wake of the first anniversary of the killing of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody, which triggered months of nationwide protests that were brutally suppressed by the Iranian security forces.
