Public anger is mounting in Iran as citizens grapple with crippling inflation and a seemingly endless cycle of financial corruption.

An article in Shargh newspaper highlighted the "back-breaking growth of prices" and criticized government officials who have become "big and passive spectators" while ordinary Iranians struggle to make ends meet.

Shargh emphasized the brazen nature of this corruption, pointing to the recent exposure of a $3.5 billion embezzlement scheme within the Debsh tea company.

The report further said that the involvement of high-ranking government officials, including ministers and deputy ministers, raised serious questions about the efficacy of the government's anti-corruption efforts.

Experts cited in the report argue that talk of fighting corruption is simply not enough.

"Public trust, essential for effective governance, will remain elusive until leaders themselves embrace genuine transparency and accountability," the newspaper wrote.

Only then, the report argues, can Iran establish a "legal administration" and move forward.
