The family of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old Iranian woman whose death in police custody a year ago sparked months of nationwide protests, is facing continued pressure from the government ahead of the anniversary of her death.

A relative of Amini told Radio Farda that the family has been warned not to visit the young woman’s grave in the western Kurdish city of Saqqez on September 16, which will mark the first anniversary of her death.

The same source also said that the whereabouts of one of her uncles, Safa Aeli, remain unknown, 10 days after his arrest by security agents in Saqqez.

The pressure exerted on the Amini family is part of a wider crackdown on dissent in Iran.

The government has arrested many protesters and activists ahead of the September 16 anniversary in an attempt to prevent further demonstrations.
