A leftover mine from the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s has exploded in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, resulting in one fatality.
According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a shepherd named Farshid Khosravi from the Qasr-e Shirin district was killed instantly on March 27.
The cause of death was a landmine explosion that detonated while Khosravi was grazing his cattle.
This incident highlights the ongoing risk posed by unexploded landmines left over from the Iran-Iraq conflict, which raged from 1980 to 1988.
