An Argentine court on Thursday pinned responsibility on Iran for deadly attacks in Buenos Aires over three decades ago and designated the Islamic Republic a "terrorist state."

The court declared that Iran had orchestrated the 1992 bombing of Israel's embassy and the 1994 attack on the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) Jewish center.

The court's verdict also implicated the Iran-backed group Hezbollah, branding the AMIA assault – the deadliest in Argentina's history – as a "crime against humanity."

The 1992 bombing claimed 29 lives at the Israeli embassy, while the 1994 attack on the AMIA center resulted in 85 fatalities and 300 injuries when a truck laden with explosives detonated.

Despite remaining unclaimed and unsolved, suspicions have long lingered that Lebanon's Hezbollah, acting at Iran's behest, carried out the 1994 assault, according to Argentine and Israeli authorities.

Prosecutors leveled accusations against high-ranking Iranian officials for orchestrating the attack, although Tehran denies any involvement.

Judges ruled the AMIA attack a crime against humanity, placing blame on then-president Ali Akbar Hashemi Bahramaie Rafsanjani, among other Iranian officials and Hezbollah operatives.
