Professor Sadegh Ziba Kalam and editor Mohammad Reza Saadi faced charges stemming from a report titled "Who Killed Kian" published in the Jahan Sanat newspape

A political science professor and a newspaper editor have been found guilty of "publishing false content" related to the death of Kian Pirfalak, a nine-year-old boy killed during the 2022 protests.

Professor Sadegh Ziba Kalam and editor Mohammad Reza Saadi faced charges stemming from a report titled "Who Killed Kian" published in the Jahan Sanat newspaper.

The report said that "some police officers use psychotropic substances in order not to hesitate and shoot people."

In their defense, they argued that the report was based on "collected narratives and the opinion of Professor Ziba Kalam," and that there was "no malicious intent."

Ziba Kalam stated he was simply repeating a rumor he had heard and questioned why the state media, which "did not prevent rumors," was not prosecuted instead.

Kian Pirfalak was among the seven people killed after "unknown" gunmen opened fire at people during protests in the southwestern city of Izeh late on November 16, 2022.

No verdict details in their case were provided, and the sentencing remains unknown.
