The Islamic Republic’s security agencies have ordered domestic media outlets to completely censor any coverage of the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death in custody.
Media organizations have also been instructed to prevent their journalists from publishing or sharing any content about the anniversary on social media, according to IranWire sources.
This follows a pattern of media suppression, with many journalists arrested and imprisoned for reporting on Amini's case during the 2022 protests.
The crackdown extends to social media users. In Saqqez and Sanandaj, the police have threatened users who changed their profile pictures to images of Amini, warning them of arrest if the images aren't removed.
These actions reflect the government's efforts to control the narrative surrounding Amini's death and the subsequent protests, raising concerns about freedom of expression and press freedom in Iran as the anniversary approaches.
