On the thirteenth day of mass protests in Iran, which followed the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, there have been increasing levels of support for strikes across Iran. Agents of the Islamic Republic have meanwhile arrested a football player, a photographer, a songwriter, a singer, and a woman who posted a photo of herself eating breakfast without a headscarf.

People in cities including Tehran, Isfahan, Rasht, Qom, Sanandaj, Yazd, Mashhad, Kerman, Chabahar and Bandar Abbas, have taken to the streets, chanting slogans including: "women, life, freedom" and "we will kill whoever killed my sister". Female protestors have been removing their headscarves, while online the number of Mahsa Amini's hashtags on Twitter has exceeded 150 million.

Revelations on Mahsa Amini’s Death and Mass Arrests

Thirteen days after protests began, a former senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps published an audio file providing an explanation of Amini's death, in which he said that according to the Forensic Medicine Organization, the young woman’s death was caused by "head injuries and concussion".

On Thursday, September 29, the number of people killed in protests in Iran continued to rise. Twenty-seven-year-old Mohammad Hossein Turkman, 16-year-old Sarina Ismaeilzadeh, 20-year-old Reza Shahparnia, and 20-year-old Reza Shahparnia are among those whose deaths have been confirmed.

There are also reports of mass arrests taking place in multiple cities. Enayatollah Naimi, a Baha'i citizen, and Elaheh Mohammadi, a journalist who reported on Mahsa Amini's funeral, have both been arrested.

Also among those detained are photojournalist Aria Jafari, poet and songwriter Sara Borzouei, poet and women's rights activist Bayan Azizi, and footballer Hossein Mahini.

IRNA news agency reported: "Following claims against some celebrities for encouraging protests, Hossein Mahini, a former player of Persepolis, was arrested an hour ago by a judicial order."

Social groups and unions have also issued statements, including more than 800 activists of children's and youth literature who issued a statement condemning the arrest of protesting teenagers and the inclusion of children in special units to deter protesters and to suppress protests.

Strikes have also gained traction, with the well-known professor from Tehran University, Mehran Mohajer, joining the university strike. Meanwhile, the Assembly of Experts issued a statement supporting the suppression of mass protests.

Following a decision by the authorities, Premier League football matches will be held without spectators.

The protests and strikes of professors and students from Iranian universities also continued.

Time Interviews Nasrin Sotoudeh as Global Reaction Spreads

Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, who is on leave from prison, said in an interview with Time magazine that the protests and strikes demonstrate a “very serious possibility of regime change”.

While protests continue in Iran, Afghan women held a rally in front of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Kabul in support of the Iranian people.

In response to the death of Mahsa Amini and the suppression of protesters in Iran, Canada's foreign minister said: "We salute the courage of Iranian women and join them in sending this decisive message that women's rights are human rights."

Four members of the US Congress sent a resolution condemning the murder of Mahsa Amini and the suppression of nationwide protests in Iran to the Foreign Relations Committee of the US House of Representatives.

The German Foreign Ministry also warned German citizens and dual citizens about traveling to Iran.

International Celebrities Support Protesters

American actress Jennifer Aniston voiced her supported for the Iranian protesters, posting photos of the protests on her Instagram Story.

Turkish-British novelist Elif Shafak and Turkish singer Sezen Aksu have also posted support for Iranian women online. Iranian singer Dariush Eghbali dedicated his new music video called Towards Tomorrow to the people of Iran.

On Thursday, September 29, the US Treasury Department announced that it has sanctioned 10 companies and a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker in connection with the sale of Iranian oil.

According to the US government’s announcement, these companies were included in the list of sanctioned companies due to the facilitating of Iran's oil exports.

Solidarity is an issue. A propaganda term. The locals of Iran know better than to believe solidarity would work. The last thing you want is fake "Egyptian" pyramid knowledge migrating into every country creating replication. Current. What happens when a fake is empowered with fake knowledge thinking they are knowledge? Current. Wrong combinations form = destruction and force. ... read more
