A young Iranian Kurdish political prisoner has gone on hunger strike in protest at his arbitrary detention, a human rights organization reported.

Korosh Geravand, 20, launched the protest action on February 7 within the confines of Ilam Central Prison, located in the western province of the same name, according to the Norway-based Hengaw group.

Geravand is serving seven months in prison for "collision with the intention of committing a crime against national security."

He was initially detained on November 24 in Sarableh, a city in western Kermanshah province, amid nationwide protests against the country’s clerical establishment. He was released on bail two weeks later.

The young man was once again apprehended by security forces on January 5 of this year following a raid by intelligence forces on his parents' home in Sarableh.
