An incarcerated Iranian political activist attempted to take his own life Wednesday night in Tehran's notorious Evin prison, IranWire has learned.
Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh was subsequently taken to Loqman Hospital in the capital.
Upon his transfer to the hospital, Yeganeh was unconscious, and his current condition remains unknown.
Yeganeh was taken to Tajrish Martyrs Hospital for medical treatment during the weekend. However, prison authorities obstructed his treatment by hospital staff.
Despite experiencing severe breathing difficulties that led to his transfer to Tajrish Martyrs Hospital, he was swiftly returned to prison after a cursory examination without a lung scan.
Yeganeh suffered significant lung injuries in a fire at Evin prison last year.
With limited time for medical treatment between his release and re-arrest, coupled with inadequate medical attention in prison and the onset of bronchitis, there are growing concerns about his deteriorating condition.
Yeganeh was arrested for the second time on April 17, 2023. He was sentenced by the 28th branch of the Revolutionary Court to six years in prison for charges of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic," "insulting sacred values," and "insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic."
