Iranian Rapper Milad Jalili Imprisoned for Political Rap Music

Milad Jalili, a rapper from northwestern Tabriz, has been arrested and sent to Tabriz Central Prison.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday after Jalili was summoned to the prosecutor's office of the Tabriz court.

The human rights organization Hengaw reported that Jalili's arrest is linked to an eight-month prison sentence he is now set to serve.

This sentence was handed down by the second branch of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court, which found him guilty of "propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic through the performance of political rap music."

The charge, which underscores Iran's strict control over artistic expression, was later upheld by the province's appeals court.

This is not the first time Jalili has faced legal repercussions for his work.

Jalili's case is part of a broader trend in Iran, where several artists, particularly musicians, have faced arrest and imprisonment for their work in recent months.
