Iran's official media have revealed that matches during the seventh week of the country’s Premier League will be held without spectators. Matches on October 9-10 in Tehran, Arak, Ahvaz, Abadan, Fouladshahr, Ghaemshahr and Sirjan are affected by the move.
The Iranian Labor News Agency news agency claimed today in its report that, even though the league has not officially announced the news, the final decision to hold the Premier League matches in empty stadiums had already been taken.
Cities across Iran have been consumed by protests against the September 16 killing of Mahsa Amini by Iran's morality police.
The decision was taken even as the Governor of Tehran, Mohsen Mansouri, told reporters today that "Tehran has been calm in recent nights and there were no protests in this city."
Mehdi Taj, a security official within the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp, is also head of the Iranian Football Federation.
