At least 20 political prisoners in Tehran's Evin prison are over 60 years old, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi revealed on Monday.

In a message posted on her Instagram page, Mohammadi addressed the concerning situation of women political prisoners in Evin Prison, specifically those over the age of 60.

Mohammadi emphasizes the double significance of this situation.

"It reflects the commitment of these women to freedom as well as the cruelty and brutality of the Islamic Republic," she wrote.

"They endure imprisonment for the advancement of human rights. I'm writing this message to ensure that the cherished people of Iran and the resilient youth, particularly the courageous and bold girls of Iran, are informed and inspired.

"As long as such mothers stand among the ranks of the activists, tyranny will fall, and the cause of freedom will stand strong.

"Mahavash Shahriari, Kobra Beigi, Raheleh Rahemi, and Nahid Taqavi stand as exemplars among the women fighters of the Evin Women's Ward, and every day, I am awed by the magnificence and valour of their stance and their unyielding resolve.

"These mothers, in the 7th decade of their lives, bestow upon human history the blessings of freedom, equality, and the indomitable spirit of resistance against tyranny.

"In this ward, we have witnessed some of these women enduring incredibly painful and challenging circumstances due to physical ailments and illness.

At least three among them find imprisonment unbearable. However, with remarkable resilience, empathy, and solidarity, they stand alongside other prisoners, embodying the essence of political-ideological prisoners in their steadfast resistance," Mohammadi wrote.

Previously, Mohammadi had drawn attention to the health issues faced by many female political prisoners.
