A detainee from the 2022 nationwide protests in Iran has died from infections caused by shotgun wounds, reports say.

According to the Hyrcani Human Rights Organization, Sara Deldar was shot with pellets by the Islamic Republic's forces during the 2022 protests in northern Rasht while helping injured protesters.

Manoto’s website also quoted a source close to Deldar, stating that she was arrested for her social media activities, and during interrogation, government agents discovered the pellets in her body.

Deldar was sentenced to one year, three months, and six days in Lakan prison in Rasht by the judicial system. After serving six months, she was released on parole.

In her last Instagram post on July 21, Deldar revealed that she had developed an infection after being released from prison and was hospitalized. She also mentioned that other prisoners released from Lakan prison in Rasht were struggling with similar health issues.

Weak physical strength, severe anemia, and kidney and ovary problems were among the conditions Deldar cited in her final social media post.

IranWire has not independently confirmed reports about the cause of Sara Deldar’s death.

According to reports, on the eve of the second anniversary of the 2022 protests, security forces pressured Deldar’s family to keep her death private.

As a result, her funeral was attended by only a small number of family members.
