The Islamic Republic's court of appeals has upheld a one-year prison sentence for Motahareh Goonehi, a suspended student of Tehran University.
Goonehi was found guilty of "propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic in favor of enemy media." The charge is based on her protest against the death sentence of rapper Toomaj Salehi.
Goonehi was arrested by IRGC Intelligence forces in Tehran on May 1, following a summons.
She was detained for four days in Evin Prison before being released on bail.
Goonehi and her husband, Mehdi Hadizadeh, both students at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, had previously faced temporary suspension and were forcibly transferred to Ardabil University of Medical Sciences by the Central Committee of the Ministry of Health.
A dentistry student and known activist, Goonehi was also arrested during the nationwide protests in 2022.
