A leftover mine from the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s has exploded in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, resulting in one fatality.

A young Kurdish woman from the village of Gur-e-Sefid in Gilan-e Gharb of Kermanshah province died on April 21 after she sustained injuries from the blast.

According to the human rights group Hengaw, Akhtar Moradi's family scavenged for recyclable materials.

On April 20, she was injured by the blast and transferred to the Al-Zahra hospital in Gilan-e Gharb, where she succumbed to her injuries.

This incident highlights the ongoing risk posed by unexploded landmines left over from the Iran-Iraq conflict, which spanned from 1980 to 1988.
