The Karoun Human Rights Organization has reported that the death sentence of Hassan Mosalavi, a civil and cultural activist held in Ahvaz’s Sheiban Prison, has been officially communicated to him. The sentence, which had previously been upheld by the Supreme Court, was served to him in prison in recent days.
Mosalavi, a native of Mosalavieh village in Khorramshahr County, has been in detention since 2022. In August 2023, the First Branch of the Mahshahr Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mehran Mehman-Navaz, sentenced him to death in an in absentia ruling.
The judicial apparatus of the Islamic Republic has listed the charges against Hassan Mosalavi as Moharebeh (enmity against God) and “membership in Arab opposition groups against the Islamic Republic.”
This is not the first time the civil activist has been targeted by the security and judicial apparatus. In 2019, Mosalavi was also arrested alongside a number of other cultural activists in connection with a security-related case and was imprisoned for 10 months.
