Iranian Woman Arrested In 3 AM Raid, Allegedly Tortured

According to information received by IranWire, Mojdeh Hashemi Bazargani, a resident of Alvand city in Qazvin province who lives with her elderly mother, was arrested by security forces at her personal residence on April 4. Aside from her mother, who has been left alone since April, Ms. Hashemi has no one else to follow up on her case.

At the time of the arrest, around three in the morning, plainclothes agents raided the home she shared with her mother, cut through the door using a metal grinder, and confronted the young woman.

According to information obtained by IranWire, Mojdeh Hashemi Bazargani initially thought the agents intended to decapitate her with the power saw. The young woman was brutally arrested and subsequently subjected to prolonged interrogations.

It is reported that the Ministry of Intelligence detained her on charges including "insulting the Supreme Leader," "espionage," and "cooperation with Israel and the United States." Following her arrest, Ms. Hashemi Bazargani was subjected to pressure, beatings, and torture to extract forced confessions, and footage of her was broadcast in a program on the Qazvin provincial television network.

Mojdeh Hashemi Bazargani is currently being held in the Central Prison of Qazvin. As of the time of writing this report, the judicial and security authorities of the Islamic Republic have not explained the details of her case, her legal status, her access to an attorney, or the allegations raised concerning the manner of her arrest and detention.
