Journalist Mehdi Mahmoudian has been summoned to serve an eight-month prison sentence handed down by Tehran's Revolutionary Court.
He is set to appear at the Culture and Media Prosecutor's Office next Sunday.
Judge Iman Afshari issued the sentence, which includes additional penalties: a two-year ban on political party membership, smartphone use, and travel.
The charges stem from Mahmoudian’s criticism of the judiciary's initial dismissal of Zia Nabavi’s prison bedbug report.
Mahmoudian was accused of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic" after a public court later confirmed Nabavi’s claims.
Mahmoudian was released from Evin Prison in January 2024 after serving 30 months.
The Defending Free Flow of Information (DeFFI) organization reported 256 legal actions against journalists in 2024, including 36 arrests and 11 prison sentences. Courts imposed nearly 70 years of combined prison terms and 110 lashes.
