Former presidential candidate Saeed Jalili has publicly declared his intention to closely monitor and, if necessary, forcefully intervene in the new government's affairs after Masoud Pezeshkian's victory.
Speaking to supporters following the announcement of election results, Jalili said he would meet with President-elect Pezeshkian to emphasize his commitment to oversight.
"We consider it our duty to help the three branches of government, including the new administration, stay on the path of the revolution and serve the country," Jalili said.
"If they heed our advice, we will support them wholeheartedly. However, if we observe negligence, incompetence, or mistakes, we deem it our responsibility to point out these issues and actively assist in correcting them," he explained.
Jalili emphasized that his stance is not about political rivalry but national interest.
"Each wrong or incomplete action can harm the entire country and its more than 80 million citizens," he said.
"We cannot be apathetic or claim no responsibility. We are accountable and must help prevent errors from occurring or rectify them if they do," he added.
The second round of Iran's presidential election was held on Friday and pro-reform Pezeshkian succeeded in winning the majority of votes and the outcome was validated by the Guardian Council.
According to the official report, the level of participation in the election's runoff phase increased by around 10 percentage points compared to the first phase, reaching nearly 50 percent.
