Iran Foreign Ministry Statement Condemning US Attacks: We Will Defend Ourselves

In reaction to the US attacks on areas in southern Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic called the action a violation of Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, declaring that Tehran will exercise its right to self-defense in response to what it described as American “military aggression.”

The Foreign Ministry’s statement noted that the early Wednesday morning attacks on June 10, which, according to American officials, were also carried out in response to the downing of an Apache helicopter, violated the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law.

The ministry also declared that, in response to the US attacks, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic targeted bases and installations associated with American forces in the region. The statement claimed that these centers were the origin or support bases for military operations against Iran.

In another part of the statement, the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry called upon regional countries, particularly the nations bordering the southern Persian Gulf, to prevent the United States and Israel from utilizing their territory and facilities to conduct operations against Iran.

The statement also warned that, in the event of continued attacks, the Islamic Republic will target centers and facilities used to execute or support military operations against Iran.

Concluding the statement by referencing the role of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry called on the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to respond to what it termed America’s “aggressive actions” and to hold the responsible parties accountable.
