Mohsen Borhani, a lawyer and professor at the University of Tehran, has been arrested and transferred to prison.
According to lawyer Sian Yousefi, Borhani faces multiple accusations, including "spreading lies with the intention of disturbing the public mind" and "behavior against the affairs of the clergy by insulting the judges."
The news of Borhani's arrest was first shared by his brother, Ahmad Borhani, on social media.
"After many ups and downs, despite remaining issues in the case, Dr. Mohsen Borhani was arrested," Ahmad Borhani said.
Mizan, the official news agency of Iran's judiciary, confirmed the arrest, saying, "Mohsen Borhani, who was previously convicted in a judicial process and whose sentence had been finalized, was summoned and sent to prison to serve the court's legal sentence."
This development follows a pattern of academic suppression in Iran.
Last year, Borhani was among several critical professors across various Iranian universities who were suspended from their faculties and banned from teaching.
This move was part of a broader crackdown on dissenting voices within academic institutions.
