A large fire erupted at the Dougharon Special Economic Zone on the Iran-Afghanistan border on Monday, leading to the temporary closure of the border crossing.
The blaze, which started at 1:48 PM local time, involved three Iranian fuel tankers and one Afghan fuel tanker.
According to Mohammad Reza Rezaei, deputy of the Taybad district governor, the fire was caused by non-compliance with safety measures.
The incident prompted immediate action from local authorities to prevent the fire from spreading.
As a precautionary measure, activities at the customs office, Dougharon Special Economic Zone, border bazaar, and transport fleet were halted. Employees in the area were evacuated to ensure their safety.
Firefighting efforts were underway on Monday afternoon, with fire engines dispatched from both Herat (Afghanistan) and Taybad (Iran) stations.
