Triple-Urgency Bill for "Management of the Strait of Hormuz" Reaches Parliament

A member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly announced the formal receipt of a triple-urgency bill titled "Management of the Strait of Hormuz," a plan that, if approved, would define broader authorities for the Islamic Republic over one of the world's most critical energy transit routes.

Ali Babai Karnami, the representative for Sari in Parliament, announced that the triple-urgency bill for the management of the Strait of Hormuz had been formally received. He stated that if the bill is passed, "full management of the Strait of Hormuz" across economic, social, and security dimensions will be placed under the control of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the lawmaker, the objective of the bill is to establish a framework for exercising integrated control and management over traffic and activities related to the Strait of Hormuz, a maritime gateway that plays a vital role in global energy trade.

The new bill is being introduced at a time when the issue of the Strait of Hormuz has become one of the central axes of negotiations between Tehran and Washington. US President Donald Trump also recently declared that the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would be one of the primary achievements of any potential agreement with Iran.

Following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, the Islamic Republic tightened its control over the passage of ships through this waterway, and the IRGC Navy announced that commercial vessels and oil tankers must obtain authorization to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

In recent weeks, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters similarly warned that any intervention by foreign military vessels in the management of the Strait of Hormuz, or any disruption to maritime traffic, would prompt a response from Iran's armed forces. Concurrently, reports have emerged regarding an increased military presence in the Persian Gulf, maritime navigation warnings from Oman, and concerns among shipping companies over the security of oil tanker transit routes.
