Explosion at Oman's Al-Fahal Oil Terminal: Crude Oil Loading Halted

Crude oil loading at Oman's Mina Al-Fahal export terminal has been halted following an explosion near the port's loading facilities. Two informed sources told Reuters that oil loading activities at this key terminal have been suspended since Friday morning.

According to the report, the explosion occurred in the area between two Single Buoy Mooring loading platforms (SBM 1 and SBM 2), and informed sources have suggested the possibility that the incident was caused by a drone attack. However, Omani officials have not yet released any details regarding the cause of the explosion or the potential perpetrator.

Ship-tracking data shows that several very large crude carriers (VLCCs) have halted in the waters surrounding the port following the suspension of loading operations and are awaiting the resumption of port activities.

The Mina Al-Fahal terminal, located near Muscat, is considered Oman's most important oil export hub, through which approximately one million barrels of crude oil are exported daily to global markets. Any disruption to the terminal's operations could impact Oman's oil exports and the regional energy supply.

The incident comes against a backdrop of rising security tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in recent months, during which the region's energy and shipping infrastructure have repeatedly faced security threats.

As of the time of this report's publication, the companies responsible for operating the Mina Al-Fahal terminal and official Omani authorities had not commented on when oil loading would resume or the extent of potential damage.
