Iran has reported over a hundred dengue fever cases and one confirmed death due to the mosquito-borne illness.
The Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Iran has released the latest statistics on dengue fever cases in the country.
According to the ministry, as of September 8, 184 people have been bitten by the Aedes mosquito, the insect responsible for transmitting dengue fever.
Shahnam Arshi, a Ministry of Health official said, "According to the reports of the current syndromic care system in the country, from the beginning of this year to the 8th of September, as many as 184 cases of dengue fever have been reported."
She confirmed one death related to dengue fever, saying, "So far, one fatality has been reported due to dengue fever."
Dengue fever can cause severe muscle and joint pain – earning it the nickname "break-bone fever". In some cases, it can result in internal bleeding and death.
