Iran launched a major military exercise on Sunday aimed at defending two of its nuclear facilities against simulated aerial attacks, state media reported.
The drill included nighttime operations to counter mock "hostile aircraft" targeting the Fordow nuclear facility near Qom and the Khondab heavy water reactor near Arak.
During the exercise, forces deployed the "15 Khordad" missile system to target drones.
Military officials described the drill as being conducted under "completely realistic conditions," involving missile units, radar systems, surveillance operations, and electronic warfare capabilities.
Both manned and unmanned aircraft from Iran's Air Force participated in offensive and defensive scenarios.
The exercise comes at a sensitive time for Iran's nuclear program.
The country recently agreed to expanded international inspections at Fordow, while regional tensions have escalated following a reported Israeli airstrike on Iranian military installations in October 2024.
The drill also takes place amid renewed international attention on Iran's nuclear facilities.
