The Islamic Republic's authorities have refused to return the body of Mohsen Langarneshin, a cybersecurity expert executed on Wednesday, to his family, IranWire has learned.

A source told IranWire that around 3 AM, prison officials informed Langarneshin’s parents, who had been waiting outside Qezel Hesar Prison, that their son had been transferred to a location in Tehran and would not be executed.

The family returned home but were later called back to the prison in the morning.

Upon their arrival, they were informed that Langarneshin had been executed and that security authorities would carry out the burial without returning the body to the family.

Mizan, the judiciary’s official news agency, confirmed Langarneshin’s execution early Wednesday morning.

Langarneshin was arrested in Tehran in July 2023 and held in Ministry of Intelligence facilities before being transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

In a previously released audio recording, he said he was pressured and tortured during interrogations to force a televised confession.

The Revolutionary Court of Tehran sentenced Langarneshin to death on charges of "espionage for Israel."

Details of the case were not publicly released, and the trial was conducted in closed sessions.
