The Islamic Republic's authorities executed a police officer convicted of the "premeditated murder" of a woman.
Ammar Asiyan, a police officer from Targak village in Dehdasht of western Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, was executed in Kerman Central Prison early Sunday morning.
The execution follows Asiyan's conviction for the murder of Somayeh Mahmoudinejad in October 2022.
According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Asiyan shot Mahmoudinejad eight times in Qaleh Ganj, Kerman Province, after she rejected his demand for a relationship.
The killing occurred in front of Mahmoudinejad's eight-year-old child. Two months before the murder, Asiyan had reportedly threatened to kill her if she refused his demands.
A Kerman Military Court sentenced Asiyan to a year of imprisonment, the payment of blood money, and the costs associated with his execution. He was held in the military ward of Shahab Prison in Kerman.
