US President Donald Trump, speaking at a White House event focused on energy and coal investment, issued a warning that military operations against Iran will resume if American forces are killed in attacks attributed to Iran.
He re-emphasized that Iran “must never and can never attain a nuclear weapon,” claiming that “everyone agrees on this issue.” In another part of his remarks, referring to last year’s airstrikes, Trump said that US B-2 aircraft targeted and “destroyed” enrichment and production centers in Iran, adding that the enriched uranium at these facilities has been buried underground.
According to him, only the US and “possibly China” possess the capability to access these materials, and while the option of deploying special forces to retrieve them was reviewed, it was ultimately discarded due to the high-risk nature of the operation.
The US president also claimed that the United States continuously monitors the location of Iran’s uranium stockpiles using surveillance systems and will take action if necessary.
Trump went on to criticize the Obama administration’s nuclear deal, saying it steered Iran toward acquiring nuclear weapons, whereas any potential new agreement would completely prevent Tehran from achieving a nuclear weapon.
He described the US House of Representatives’ recent resolution limiting the president’s war powers regarding Iran as “unpatriotic” and criticized it.
Additionally, referring to the policy of pressure on Tehran, Trump stated that in the event of an agreement, the issue of reopening the Strait of Hormuz would also be on the table, adding: “We will win this battle, whether through an agreement or on the battlefield.”
