A gunman opened fire on pedestrians from a rooftop on Wednesday evening in western Iran, killing two people and injuring at least six others, authorities said.
The shooting happened in Tuyserkan, a city in Hamadan Province. Three of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition.
One of the injured later died in the hospital from severe wounds, bringing the death toll to two, according to the head of Hamadan's emergency medical services.
The chief of Tuyserkan police said the shooter, a man with a criminal record, began firing at pedestrians from the roof of his home near Kermanshah Road.
Abbas Najafi, the prosecutor general of Hamadan Province, confirmed the incident and said the local prosecutor arrived at the scene immediately to initiate a judicial investigation.
The gunman is now in custody, but his motive remains unclear.
Najafi said authorities are investigating several details, including the type of weapon used, how it was obtained, and the possible motive behind the attack.
